ÜBER UNS: EUROZENTRIKA ist eine Plattform für realistische Kunst, für darstellende Utopie, für subjektive Forschung und interdisziplinäre Körperpolitik.
About Eurozentrika:
Eurozentrika is an interdisciplinary group and network interested in exploring different concepts and conceptions of European Identity. The initiative was triggered by questions of how the EU expansion affects the old, new or future citizens sense of personal, national and gender identity.
We want to engage with the discourse on Europe with both vision and with respect to postcolonial criticism.
Eurozentrika is interested in igniting discussions around questions like: What could the Utopia of a future Europe look like? Which hopes and anxieties cling to the EU membership? How can questions about inclusion and exclusion be negotiated on the level of global citizenship? How has identity models changed with regard to living conditions and role behavior? What impact do the changes have on self-perception and working modes? Which roles does gender play in the perspective of artistic work and institutional acclaim? How does the Western art market influence strategies, aesthetics and production of Eastern European artists and vice versa? In comparison to the feminist avant garde of the 70ies how are problematics of gender identity negotiated in contemporary artistic praxis?
Contemporary art offers society a Carrol'esq mirrors reflection of its political developments; through subjective positionings that reflect individual living conditions and interpretations of history the artists render the theory of a European Union tangible.
Eurozentrika connects applied art, political theory, art history and the social reality of every day life in Europe. Artists and theorists are invited to exchange ideas about their concept of Identity and conterminous subjects with the back drop of an expanding Europe. We work to create a space for encounters, networking, new ideas, prolific discussions and artistic and academic collaborations.
The project is based on the conviction that Europe can only come into life through interpersonal connections within and beyond its member states. A humanistic, creative and inclusive Europe is one that has to be invented, applied and fought for.
Eurozentrika is a playing field in which every thought can be thought again and every fact be questioned.
This project is initiated by Nele Brönner (illustrator & designer), Ann-Katrin Frank (art historian) und Mikala Hyldig Dal (conceptual artist, curator); We are connected by a strong interest in contemporary art and its reflection of socio-political problematics.
